Success Story

From 2D AutoCAD to Intelligent iLogic-driven 3D Inventor Designs

From 2D AutoCAD to Intelligent iLogic-driven 3D Inventor Designs

Customer challenge

Palian was using 2D AutoCAD in a primarily 3D dominated field, struggling with collaboration between branches and the length of time it would take to make relatively small changes to designs. Getting drawings and quantities to the sales team for quotation purposes took longer than desired and a lot of manual user calculations and input was still needed, which increased the change of costly "human error" mistakes.

Project goals

Priority project goals identified were as follows: 1) Reduce the time taken for the sales team to provide customers with an accurate quotation 2) Improve workflow and turnaround time on design changes 3) Eliminate manual counting errors 4) Improve collaboration between branches and internal teams

Solution

By implementing Autodesk Inventor and setting up iLogic Rules and Forms, Palian greatly automated parametrically-driven designs. The creation of 2D technical drawings is significantly faster and collaboration between teams has been improved by standardising the software used, and introducing Navisworks as a project review tool. Hardware was upgraded to support the new software, eliminating current and future delays caused by workstation bottlenecks.

Business outcome

Many hours are saved each day by using Inventor and upgraded hardware. 3D Visual Renders are easier to generate and send to clients, and quantities are quicker to calculate and share with sales team. A 3D Library being built up will only improve speed and quality of future projects, and collaboration and project review is enhanced with Navisworks Manage.

Conclusion

Transitioning from 2D to 3D can be a daunting task, especially if you still have a high-performing business to run. Palian however, with the help of Modena, transitioned over to 3D Inventor while keeping their business running smoothly. Now with the time and resources saved from their improved workflow, Palian can reach for new heights in their industry.

DRA Global takes on Project Delays with Innovative use of Technology

DRA Global had to overcome a delay of 25 days over deadline for their Sierra Leone Project, so they needed to find a way to get that time back to avoid running over with this project. The impact of this was on their future expansion projects within the same mine, in Sierra Leone, which would be double the size of the original project.
