Vault Professional Implementation and Data Migration

Vault Professional Implementation and Data Migration

Customer challenge

Georgia Transmission Corporation (GTC) needed to replace an aging Document Management System. They were no longer receiving adequate support for the product and it was preventing them from upgrading their AutoCAD solution to a current release. Given that restraint, they hadn’t been able to leverage some of the recent advances in AutoCAD or the obvious potential for them of products like Autodesk Civil 3D.

Project goals

1) Migrate existing data from the old Document Management System to a new more modern Document Management System that wouldn’t have the potential to lag behind the release cycles of their AutoCAD and other Autodesk design tools. 2) Extend access to that data for team members not actively using AutoCAD while enacting more precise control of said access. 3) Migrate legacy AutoCAD customizations forward to a current release. 4) Investigate the potential of tools like Civil 3D.

Solution

Autodesk Vault Professional was implemented with GTC’s legacy files and meta data was migrated from the old system. Vault was configured to support their various processes and workflows. Custom curriculums were developed and delivered for Vault Professional, AutoCAD and Civil 3D. Ongoing mentoring and support continue to be provided to assure that GTC continues to leverage these design and management tools to maximum effect.

Business outcome

GTC now has a capable and modern, “future proof” Document Management System on the same release cycle as its design tools. It has also been able to better utilize AutoCAD by taking advantage of newer features. Civil 3D has been implemented and we look forward to collaborating on potential implementations of AutoCAD Electrical and Autodesk Inventor with Substation Design Suite.

Conclusion

"GTC was searching for a solution to replace our database system. We needed a system that would work well with our Autodesk products and a company that would be reliable, innovative and patient with us learning the product. We conducted a demo and a bid process from three Autodesk resellers who recommended Vault. Repro Products checked all the boxes we were looking for in a reseller and outlined procedures to efficiently transfer existing data to Vault." -- Georgia Transmission Corporation (GTC)
