But even in the age of technology, most model changes are performed by old-fashioned page turns, which is too late and already out of date. This in-depth session introduces effective practices for managing Revit model changes in coordination with the various software packages you may be be integrating with your Revit model for creating cost estimates, schedules, work breakdown structures, bid packages, and so on. It is not enough to know how to create great 3D renderings. You have to make images that really sell, and to do that you need the knowledge of a photographer. This hands-on lab covers worthy architectural photography principals and explains how to apply them to 3D renderings using mental ray® in 3ds Max® 2014 software. In this lab, you learn how to translate good image composition, lighting, and staging to your renderings. We also discuss photographic phenomena such as vignetting, barrel distortion, glare, and other issues and describes how to fine-tune these photographic flaws to your advantage to create a rendering that really sells.

Even more difficult than finding space to build increasingly taller skyscrapers, is finding room to place new urban underground infrastructure. Urban underground space is an extremely rare and limited resource, and the growing underground race demands efficient solutions due to climate changes in our atmosphere. Subways, underground parking lots, gas piping, drainage, and sewers systems have been built throughout the years in large cities around the globe, and, in several cases, built without any master planning or blueprints. In this class, we will present how Civil 3D software can be used to design drainage systems in a high-density urban underground infrastructure environment, and how Dynamo software can help to enhance the workflows.

3D printing has revolutionized the design and manufacturing production workflow, making the creation of design prototypes as easy as pushing a button. Inventor software has been a central tool in this revolution, enabling designers and engineers to create and iterate their design faster than ever before. This course will step through the process of developing, printing, and iterating the design of a real product prototype. Quad copters and drones are used every day for a variety of purposes, from videography to inspecting large tanks. Many drones leave the blades exposed and a single hit into a surface can easily damage both the blades and the drone. Here you will step through the process of designing blade guards for a popular drone quadcopter, seeing the steps and different phases of the design used to create a 3D printable final product.

During this presentation, we provide an overview of Mockup 360™, a new cloud-based digital mockup tool for manufacturing industries. Mockup 360 removes many of the existing barriers to working collaboratively on full 3D mockups, such as model size, cost, IT implementation, and limited sharing. Mockup 360 works seamlessly with Autodesk® Product Design Suite, Factory Design Suite, and Inventor® software by allowing users to directly upload their 3D models into mockups and share with colleagues, suppliers, and customers. In addition to introducing the product, we outline typical workflows that take advantage of the power of the truly open collaboration in Mockup 360. After this class, attendees should be comfortable with the basic concept of the product and be able to make a decision on whether Mockup 360 can improve their design processes.

Advanced work packaging (AWP) is project management methodology and Construction Industry Institute (CII) Best Practices. Connected design collaborations need to be contextually relevant with the ability to easily manage what aspects of the design we share, with whom we share, when we share, and how we share. In a roundtable format, facilitators will generate lively discussion around key collaboration topics for Inventor software, including IP management, viewing strategies, and design reuse. To explore IP management, the facilitators will demonstrate possible future scenarios then host a discussion to tease out what aspects of a design are considered IP in different situations. To explore viewing strategies, we will do a small-group exercise to envision what actions we'd want collaborators to take on shared designs (commenting, markup, and beyond), occasions when we'd want collaborations to be asynchronous versus live, and other topics. To get at design reuse, we will do a prioritization exercise to understand which metadata is most helpful when striving to quickly find the closest design to the project as well as what is needed to understand history of design changes.

Autodesk, Inc., design software provides great tools for building complex designs that range from mechanical to civil, and 3ds Max Design software is a great tool for generating visually striking rendered animations. This round table will discuss topics related to the use of 3ds Max Design software for the rendering and animation of CAD models from other Autodesk design software systems. We will discuss importing and linking models from programs like Revit software and Inventor software, and we'll cover the use of the Civil View feature set for visualizing AutoCAD Civil 3D software geometry. We will examine strategies for working efficiently within 3ds Max software, and we'll look at the animation of specific moveable parts. We'll also discuss the tools that are available for editing keyframes and tweaking the overall look and timing of the animation. To wrap up the discussion, we will review the multiple rendering options available in 3ds Max Design software and discuss which option can be best suited for which particular task.

Mechanical motion is all around. From a simple door hinge to a car cylinder piston, it is easy to forget that even the simplest real-world motions can be complex operations in 3D animation software. This class will explore several methods for automating complex motion animation in 3ds Max 2020. Designers will learn how to wire parameters, then import the assembly into 3ds Max, as well as how to create similar constraints using 3ds Max tools. You will learn strategies for building a hierarchy based on the animation requirements, basic parameter wiring, and setting up links and Inverse Kinematics to mimic specific constraints. The class will step through multiple short lessons that allow you to create the animation of specific moveable parts. Finally, attendees will see what advantages each tool has for different steps in the animation of complex motion.

Inventor software is a great tool for building complex mechanical assemblies, and 3ds Max Design software is a great tool for generating visually stunning rendered animations. This hands-on labs fuses the 2 programs and covers topics related to the animation of Inventor assemblies using 3ds Max 2014. You learn how to import an Inventor assembly that will be used for animation in 3ds Max. You also learn strategies for building a hierarchy based on the animation requirements for the imported models. The class steps you through the process of creating keyframe animation of specific moveable parts. Finally, you learn about the tools that are available for editing keyframes and tweaking the overall look and timing of the animation. To complete the process, you learn how to configure and render an image sequence for final output using the Quicksilver hardware renderer.
