AI at AU 2023

Autodesk AI

Artificial intelligence is all over the news these days—maybe you’ve heard? From rapid advances in natural language processing to generative image, model, and video creation, it seems like there’s a breakthrough every week. Even experts in the field have been caught off guard. It’s clear that AI will be a transformative factor in how we live and work—especially for those in the Design and Make industries.

At Autodesk, we’ve been pushing the envelope with AI and developing AI capabilities in our solutions for years, whether you’re talking about the Smart Blocks Replacement feature in AutoCAD or Rapid Wind or Noise Analysis in Autodesk Forma. The Autodesk Research team has published more than 60 papers related to AI and, in collaboration with the MIT Computational Design and Fabrication Group, Autodesk published a data set of computer-aided designs (CAD) for machine learning.

As you might expect, AI will be a big topic at AU 2023, with learning sessions, Theater talks, and connection opportunities to help you develop your skills, expand your understanding, and build your professional network, and we’ll have pioneering projects featured in the Expo and on the main stage. If you’re interested in learning where AI is headed and what it means for Design and Make professionals, AU 2023 is the place to be. Register now to join us in person or sign up for your free Digital Pass.

Learning sessions

There will be hundreds of learning sessions related to AI at AU 2023 in Las Vegas for architecture, building engineering, civil infrastructure, construction, manufacturing, and media production. And if all the options feel overwhelming, we have a dedicated AI learning track featuring a handful of curated classes to keep things simple. So, whether you’re looking for big-picture learning or want to get granular and learn new workflows, we have you covered.

Theater talks

Hear short talks from thought leaders across industries during the Transforming Design & Make with AI Theater block on Tuesday, November 14, starting at 4:30 PM PST. Ryan McClelland of NASA, May Winfield of Buro Happold, and Rob Greig of Arup will be sharing their work, as will Autodesk’s own Mike Haley. Those talks will become available on-demand on Wednesday in the Digital Experience.

Meetups

We’ll have opportunities to connect with like-minded professionals who are also interested in AI, both in-person and online. If you’ll be with us in Vegas, check out the AI in Construction Meetup on Wednesday at 3:30 PM PST for a discussion of the major categories of AI for the construction industry and favorite tools, followed by the chance for networking and open conversation. If you’re participating in the Digital Experience, join the Digital Meetup focused on AI for a chance to discuss how you’re using (or hope to use) AI technology in your work, discover and share best practices, and discuss AI's transformative role in each industry.

In the Expo

We’ll have incredible projects created with the help of AI featured in the One Autodesk Experience in the Expo, including The Phoenix, an affordable housing project being built in Oakland, CA that was developed using outcome-based design tools in Autodesk Forma. And our very own Dara Treseder, Chief Marketing Officer at Autodesk, will be talking with the AI-powered Ameca robot (designed with Inventor) on the Design and Make Stage in the Expo on Monday at 12:00 PM PST.

AI will affect many, if not all aspects of human existence in years and decades ahead, according to experts. Now is the time to get ready for transformation by seeing what’s possible, what’s coming, and what it means for how we design and make. We prepare through learning and connection—and AU 2023 is where that happens. We can’t wait to see you in Vegas or online via the AU Digital Experience.
