Why Construction Companies Need to Be Data-Driven

Contextualized data and AI are driving better decision-making in construction

Construction has always been one of the most flexible and agile industries, able to respond to changing conditions and unforeseen clashes on a daily, if not hourly, basis. The key to that agility has usually been site managers and others making decisions on-site as needed. But due to lagging digitization up until now, those decisions are often made based on experience, intuition, and limited data. And that has held back efficiency and productivity in the industry. More than 50% of all processes in construction are still paper-based, and an estimated 13% of work hours are spent looking for data. Patrik Johansson of BIMvirtual shares his process for accelerating digitization to enable decisions based on insights pulled from real-time data. From integration of silos to democratization of insights, he shares what’s possible when data has context and teams have the AI-based tools to make that data meaningful.
