A field is a special type of text annotation that contains instructions to display
00:10
data that you expect to change during the life cycle of a drawing.
00:14
When a field is updated, the latest data is displayed,
00:18
for example, in the exercise file on the model tab,
00:23
you see a floor plan for a hospital.
00:26
Various areas have been filled with solid hatch color coded to indicate their use
00:33
in the lower right corner.
00:34
You see a legend that reports the area for each of the five usage categories.
00:40
When you zoom into the legend,
00:42
you can see that the patient rooms currently total 8936 square feet.
00:50
Suppose the client has requested that an additional foot
00:53
be added to the length of the patient rooms.
00:56
You can easily accomplish this by using the stretch command
01:01
on the home ribbon
01:03
in the modify panel, click stretch.
01:07
When the program prompts you to select objects zoom out,
01:13
use a crossing window to select the north wall of the building
01:17
and then press enter to complete your selection.
01:21
When the program prompts you to specify a base point,
01:25
select any point outside the building,
01:28
then
01:29
use polar tracking to track at a 90 degree angle
01:33
type
01:36
and press enter,
01:39
then repeat these steps for the eight patient
01:42
rooms on the south side of the building.
01:45
This time tracking
01:46
at a 270 degree angle.
01:53
Now that you have added the additional space
01:56
to the patient rooms zoom into the legend.
