Create a new dimension substyle

Create and define a new dimension substyle.

00:04

Dimension styles control the appearance of dimensions and help

00:08

ensure that dimensions conform to industry or project standards.

00:12

In addition to creating your own custom dimension styles,

00:15

you can create dimension subs style that use

00:18

specific settings for different types of dimensions.

00:22

For example,

00:23

you can create a subs style that is only used when creating diameter dimensions

00:28

on the annotate ribbon

00:30

in the dimensions panel,

00:32

click the dialogue box launcher to open the dimension style manager

00:37

in the styles list, select arch dash W dash alt if that style is not already selected

00:45

and then click new to open the create new dimension style dialogue.

00:51

Since you are creating a subs style, you do not need to specify a new style name.

00:56

The style name will be filled in automatically

01:00

in the start with drop down, make sure arch dash W dash alt is selected.

01:07

Leave the annotative check box selected,

01:10

expand the use four drop down and choose diameter dimensions.

01:16

Now the new style name field is no longer available.

01:20

Click continue to open the new dimension style dialogue

01:25

in the top bar of the dialogue.

01:27

The style name now indicates that this is a diameter subs style

01:33

now, you can use any of the controls on any of the tabs

01:37

to adjust any of the settings for this dimension subs style.

01:41

The changes you make will only be applied to diameter

01:44

dimensions created using the arch dash W dash alt dimension style

01:51

on the symbols and arrows tab

01:53

in the arrowheads group box, expand the first drop down and choose closed, filled

02:01

in the center marks group box, choose line

02:05

so that the program will create a center line

02:08

whenever you place a diameter dimension

02:12

on the text tab

02:14

in the text appearance group box, expand the text color, drop down and choose red.

02:20

So that diameter dimensions created with this subs style are

02:24

always red regardless of the layer on which they are drawn

02:29

on the primary units tab

02:32

in the linear dimensions group box, expand the unit format drop down

02:37

and choose decimal. So that diameter dimensions use decimal units,

02:42

leave the precision set to three decimal places

02:47

on the tolerances tab

02:49

in the tolerance format group box expand the method drop down and choose deviation.

02:56

Leave the precision set to three decimal places,

03:00

change the upper value to 0.002

03:05

and the lower value to 0.001.

03:10

When you are finished, defining the dimension subs style,

03:13

click OK to close the new dimension style dialogue

03:18

in the dimension style manager. In the styles list

03:22

note that the new diameter subs style appears in the list

03:26

immediately below the arch dash W dash alt dimension style.

03:31

This new dimension subs style will be used whenever you create a

03:34

diameter dimension using the arch dash W dash alt dimension style,

03:40

click close to close the dimension style manager.
