Clean up dimensions by breaking dimension lines and extension lines where they overlap each other or the objects they annotate.
Transcript
00:04
As you dimension your drawing,
00:06
you may end up with dimension lines that overlap the objects.
00:09
You are dimensioning
00:10
or extension lines that overlap geometry or
00:13
even other dimension lines or extension lines.
00:16
Since this can make dimensions more difficult to understand
00:20
the program provides a handy tool to help you clean up dimensions by breaking
00:25
dimension lines and extension lines where they overlap each other or the objects,
00:30
they annotate.
00:31
This keeps dimension lines,
00:33
extension lines and leader lines from appearing as if they are part of the design
00:39
on the annotate ribbon
00:41
in the dimensions panel, click the brake tool.
00:45
The program prompts you to select the dimension to add or remove a break.
00:50
Click to select the 1.5 unit dimension on the right.
00:55
The program then prompts you to select the object to break the dimension.
00:59
Note that there are also several options,
01:03
move the cursor over the object.
01:05
Since the object was created using a polyline, the entire object highlights
01:10
when you click to select the object,
01:13
the extension lines are immediately broken
01:15
so that there is a gap where they cross the object.
01:19
The size of the gap is controlled by the dimension break
01:22
size setting for the dimension style of the dimension being broken,
01:28
the command remains active. So you can select another object to break the dimension
01:34
press enter to end the command
01:37
then
01:37
select the object line on the right and use grip
01:41
editing to move it 0.5 units to the right.
01:44
Notice that the gap automatically adjusted
01:49
in the ribbon.
01:50
Click the brake tool. Again,
01:52
the program prompts you to select the dimension to add or remove a break.
01:57
You can use this same tool to remove gaps that you previously created.
02:03
Click to select the 1.5 unit dimension.
02:06
The program then prompts you to select the object to break the dimension.
02:10
Right click and choose the remove option.
02:14
As soon as you do,
02:15
the gaps are immediately removed from the extension lines and the command ends,
02:22
click the brake tool again
02:24
and then click to select the 1.5 unit dimension as the dimension to be broken.
02:29
Then when the program prompts you to select the object to break the dimension,
02:34
right click and choose the manual option.
02:38
This option lets you manually control the size of the gap.
02:42
The program prompts you to specify the first break point
02:46
on the status bar, toggle off object snap,
02:52
then
02:53
click to select a point on the extension line as the first breakpoint,
02:59
the program then prompts you to specify a second breakpoint.
03:03
Click to select a second point on the extension line
03:06
as soon as you do. A gap is created on that extension line and the command ends
03:13
since you created the gap manually, only that extension line is broken.
03:19
The other extension line remains unchanged.
03:24
Select the object and use grip editing to move its right edge 0.5 units to the left.
