Release an Inventor assembly with a change request in Upchain

In Upchain, you can release an assembly by sending it through a change request (CR) workflow.

The workflow determines the assembly's status and all its parts at the end.

While the CR workflow progresses, tasks may be assigned to various team members.

You can initiate a change request from your CAD plugin or directly from Upchain, as in this example.

With Upchain open in the BOM view, select a project in the navigation pane to open it in the center view.

In this brake assembly example, one part has a status of Released,

but all the other parts—and the assembly itself—have a status of Development.

Click more actions next to the assembly name, and then select Send to > Change request.

In the change request interface, select the pre-configured Workflow that you want to initiate for this assembly, and then click Save.

Click Start Workflow to initiate the workflow.

The workflow chosen determines what happens next and what actions you or others may need to take.

Depending on the workflow chosen, only the person assigned a task will be able to execute the next workflow step.

In this example, clicking Approve is all that is needed to automatically update the status to Released.

Once approved, select the assembly from the BOM table to open the item details pane.
