4-Axis Machining with Fusion CAM

4-Axis Machining with Fusion CAM

Customer challenge

Iyappan Engineering (IEIPL) have been in the business for the last 50 years. It is a major Indian Import Substitute for manufacturing of high precision assemblies and components. It has rich experience in reverse engineering of complex assemblies and sub-assemblies for specialty industries. Apart from manufacturing, IEIPL is involved in the sales of spares and a service provider for select brands.

IEIPL has multiple CNC machines with a rotary table which is not used to its fullest potential.  These cases require manual intervention to the machine and takes more time to complete an operation which eventually affects the productivity time.

Project goals

The main goal identified for IEIPL was to make use of their machines to the fullest extent so that the manufacturing lead time is reduced and the need for manual intervention is reduced. As a result, faster delivery of the products could be made possible.

Solution

With Autodesk Fusion 360 CAM, which has multiple axis machining methodology integrated, we were able to solve their current issue.

IEIPL are working for defense and thermal plants with Fusion 360 CAM, and we were able to define the desired stock from the model, edit the required tool, and define the operations. With Fusion Simulation, toolpath simulation can be viewed to check for tool collision and toolpath movement as per the machine utilized.

With the extensive post processing available in the Fusion library, the desired codes for the machine have been generated and a dry run has been successfully checked on the machine.

Business outcome

With Autodesk Fusion CAM implemented, IEIPL are now able to utilise their rotary table well and to the fullest extent which has saved nearly 40% of their time, and which had previously been wasted in manual programming and slow paced production.

Conclusion

Autodesk Fusion 360 CAM has proved to IEIPL as a powerful machining solution companion and they are pretty much sure now to bag new projects and orders.

DBMV’s– Plant 3D Piping Traceability

DBMV was originally engaged on the project to assist in the design by producing traceable pipe isometrics to aid with the fabrication and installation of pipe spools on site. During this process, the client wanted to track all materials, joints, welds, and spools through the procurement, fabrication, NDT (Nondestructive Testing), and on-site installation process to minimize disruption to production and supply chain. This required DBMV to track every single item with unique identification.

Increased Efficiency in Engineering and Design

KAMCO, a manufacturing company for agricultural machinery, sought to find an optimal solution for their customers' needs. They have collaborated closely with farmers and recognized their areas of difficulties - a cono-weeder machine. KAMCO then found that they needed to look for a one point solution to overcome their critical design requirements for this cono-weeder machine which requires solid modeling, sheet metal as well as standard frames.
