We will use 3D models (Revit Architecture software) and 2D DWF technology documents to complete our tasks in this class. You will learn to understand Navisworks Manage 2015 software's Quantification interface and the tools in the software, and you will leave the class feeling ready to tackle coming quantification challenges.

This class covers the production of a Navisworks project review software Building Information Modeling (BIM) coordination template. In this lab session we will go through the process of setting up default search sets and developing clash rules in Navisworks project review software using an XML editor. We will then go through the process of exporting error reports with basic modification. The session will conclude with a walk-through of the clash detection cycle and workflow for updating the clash tests. At the end of the lab you will have a basic Navisworks software clash detection template to take away with you. This will result in a base standardized set of clash detection rules and a drastic reduction in the time taken to carry out clash detection and reporting.

This course will discuss the utilization of Revit software and Navisworks software on small construction projects (less than $10 million) where full-scale, 3D trade coordination is not feasible. We will outline strategies to use low level of development (LOD) models for constructability and planning purposes in the interest of increasing overall field efficiency and quality of finished work. We will cite specific cases where the need for rework was avoided as a direct result of model usage on low-budget projects.

The more involved the BIM implementation becomes, the more important it becomes to store information in an external database. It will cover how to create add-ins that sit inside the product and enable you to integrate with third-party systems, how to automate the product to perform process-intensive and repetitive tasks, and how to embed the .NET controls in your own application to take full advantage of the powers of Navisworks. There will be a specific focus on the new Clash and Timeliner API features. This class will benefit those who want to extend the functionality of Navisworks using a .NET language such as C#, so some programming experience is preferred.

Navisworks 2014 software onwards gained an enhanced capability to utilize point cloud data via the use of the ReCap software engine. The aim of this class is to demonstrate how you can use this enhanced capability on infrastructure projects with point clouds upward of 2.5 billion points. As infrastructure engineers we often have to work around existing constraints of buildings, footbridges, flyovers, railway arches, bridges, and a wide range of other structures, all of which need clearances from our carriageway envelopes. We will look at how you can use these large point clouds to not only demonstrate these interactions to our clients and stakeholders, but also to utilize the model to check lateral and headroom clearances and visually inspect visibility issues.

The combination of Revit software and Navisworks software is by far the best Building Information Modeling (BIM) tool for model authoring and clash coordination. The workflow of using these software systems is pretty straightforward. Once the clash results are out, we can use the Switchback tool from Navisworks Manage to locate those clashes back to Revit. However, having to simultaneously highlight the exact location of those clashes in the Revit file would be challenging. In this class, we will show how we can use a Dynamo script to locate those clashes in Revit by using a sphere family that can be scheduled and highlighted in the model for quick viewing. And finally, we'll add comments in the sphere family schedule to communicate these updates back to the rest of the team.

This class will cover both time-saving tips and tricks and practical user workflows for different aspects of Autodesk Navisworks software. You will learn about Clash Detective, Animator, TimeLiner, and other Navisworks features. The tips and tricks are based on seven years of real-world experience using Navisworks on over 300 projects.
