Modeling an Elevated Guideway with InfraWorks, Civil 3D, Inventor, and Revit

Description

In this class, we’ll cover how different steps of modeling the guideway are carried out within Autodesk software. We’ll start with demonstrating how to generate the guideway’s alignment and then import into InfraWorks software to define the course of the guideway. Next, we’ll present how to generate various sections of the guideway in Inventor software and then import to InfraWorks to build up the model. Finally, we’ll show how the guideway model is exported to Revit software to be enhanced with appurtenances that are natively modeled in Revit. The overarching goal of this class is to demonstrate how this workflow empowers the software to interact and supplement each other to ultimately produce a guideway model that is parametric and dynamic. Furthermore, you could readily use the model for developing construction documents, as well as delivering multiple BIM (Building Information Modeling) uses, such as 4D scheduling, and 5D estimating.

    As an experienced design technology leader and innovator, Cameron currently serves as the BIM Lead for the LAX Automated People Mover (APM) Project. Cameron’s responsibilities include the oversight and management of all 3D model deliverables across the entire design scope of the projects 150+ design models, 300+ designers and more than 15 design firms. Being HDR’s largest BIM project and one of the largest BIM projects in the nation, Cameron is in charge of ensuring models from civil utilities through station structural meet contractual LOD requirements for use in 4D Phasing, 5D Estimating, As-built and O&M use cases. Cameron has extensive experience specializing in blending horizontal (Civil) and vertical (Architectural) projects across multiple platforms to ensure project teams are communicating as efficient as possible with minimal data loss between cross platform applications.
  • Ara Ashikian
    Ara Ashikian is the Senior Product Line Manager for the Autodesk Civil Structures product development teams. Prior to joining Autodesk in 2013, he had over 20 years of experience as a bridge engineer and a software developer, working on a large number of bridge projects, including preliminary, detailed and construction engineering design aspects for a wide range of bridge types. These projects included the detailed construction engineering of the EG LNG suspension bridge in Africa, as well as for the New Bay Bridge (self-anchored suspension bridge in California), the detailed engineering for the launching of the Kicking Horse Canyon bridge in the Canadian Rockies as well as for the Coast Meridian cable stayed bridge in Vancouver.
