The World Economic Forum estimates that 1 billion people will need to be reskilled by 2030. Of that number, 62 million people work in the AEC, manufacturing, and M&E industries. In particular, the construction and manufacturing industries are undergoing major digital transformations, which is a catalyst driving new jobs and skills for workers in those industries. According to a 2021 report from Burning Glass, the construction and manufacturing industries are moving away from requiring bachelor’s degree qualifications and shifting to skills-based learning and on-the-job training. But that shift requires more than credentialing and certification programs. It’s about a cultural change within companies to keep them competitive in their markets and their employees adaptable to the evolving nature of work. In this panel, execs from HP, Unity, Intel, and Autodesk discuss how automation, technology, and globalization are driving this change and what executives can do to get ahead of it.

- JSJoe SpeicherJoe Speicher is the Executive Director of the Autodesk Foundation. Prior to joining Autodesk, Speicher was on the founding team of Living Goods, where he spent six years leading operations for the global health organization. He began his career in the banking and finance sector, working with Deutsche Bank and Cambridge Associates. He then spent three years in the Peace Corps in the Philippines and has worked as a consultant for the Economist Intelligence Unit, the World Bank and Google.org. He earned a Masters degree from Columbia University and holds a Bachelors degree from Washington and Lee University.
