Invest in Our Planet: Learning for Earth Day 2022
Earth Day 2022 is Friday, April 22, and this year’s theme is ‘Invest in Our Planet.’ Making the transition to practices that are more sustainable for people, communities, and the planet—these kinds of changes don’t just happen. Climate action planning takes intention, insight, effort, and also investment—from governments, individuals, and industry. Making those investments to support sustainable practices is part of our mission at Autodesk, and there’s still a lot of work to do.
There are countless opportunities for businesses and individuals alike to get involved, take a new approach, and make a difference. In recognition of Earth Day 2022, events are happening everywhere, whether you’re in Austin or Addis Ababa. Featuring everything from cleanup events to marches on city hall to online panel discussions, there is something for everyone. And it’s easy to participate at whatever level you feel comfortable with.
What will you do to invest in our communities, our children, our planet, and our future? One thing you can do right now is learn more about the practical steps necessary to create sustainable architecture, construction, and manufacturing:
In the board room
Sustainability involves rethinking entire structures and processes. We need to embrace fundamental shifts in our business mindsets.
- For the world to meet its climate change goals, the AEC industry must fundamentally rethink how it designs, constructs, and operates the built environment. New approaches to building engineering can make a big difference.
- Innovative design solutions can help solve energy poverty, which affects 1 in 10 people worldwide. Explore the design process, from problem to scalable solution.
- Manufacturing company Lingrove has demonstrated remarkable resilience in adapting their ecofriendly designs and use of sustainable materials to pandemic challenges.
In the design suite
Prioritizing sustainability starts from the very beginning of a project when powerful tools like generative design can make the greatest impact.
- Generative design in Revit can increase efficiency and sustainability in architecture.
- Generative design is helping manufacturers lightweight an electric hypercar.
- Build Health International partnered with the Autodesk Foundation to develop sustainable workflows for building performance. Learn how to prepare for green standards, perform iterative studies, identify passive strategies, and compare and validate design decisions in the early phases of a project, when it can do the most good at the lowest cost.
- BIM is crucial when it comes to better understanding how to integrate green objectives in your design process. Use your data to design, construct, and operate efficient infrastructure with minimal environmental impact.
On the construction site
Waste continues to plague the construction industry. 30% of building materials delivered to a construction site end up in the landfill. The United States generates 600 million tons of construction-related waste annually. New digitized approaches can help.
- Thinking about implementing Autodesk Construction Cloud at your business? Find out how Mace Group got it done.
- The PlanGrid mobile app brings Autodesk Construction Cloud to workers in the field, improving construction site management.
- The principles of product management in manufacturing and software development are helping construction companies like McKinstry reduce waste and materials.
