The building owner's Digital Twins include digital models of facilities & operations. They should be integrated. We share work to define owner FM requirements and scaleable methods to deliver FM data from capital projects using Autodesk products. We also integrate the VueOps platform, which uses Autodesk Forge, with an owner’s computerized maintenance management system. This owner seeks to find and view design, product, and O&M information about equipment holistically for incidence response and maintenance events, and eventually incorporate it with asset health and diagnosis tools. VueOps extracts and relates location, system, and equipment information from annotated CAD and BIM, to power ‘right information, right time’ search in a customized Forge viewer. We integrated the VueOps viewer and connected VueOps data with the owner’s computerized maintenance management system to bring BIM and project turnover data into an enterprise CMMS and manage changes between the Digital Twins.

Utilizing BIM for facilities management (FM) has been the utopian dream of BIM enthusiasts since the inception of BIM. A fully parametric BIM can provide immediate access to information from mechanical component types and periodic maintenance records, to fixture and equipment inventories, to seating charts and disaster recovery plans. However, a closer look at the process of delivering FM-BIM shows that a gap exists in integrating facility-related information with intelligent models for efficient handover to support facility management operations. There are many technical challenges posed due to the lack of interoperability of multiple software involved. Also, there are challenges in the process of data gathering due to the current contractual framework. This presentation will take a deeper dive in understanding the process and technology challenges in creating useful FM intelligent models and will propose a road map to turn the utopian dream of BIM for FM into reality.

The contractor and architect from the Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design—which is striving for full certification of the Living Building Challenge—will explain how Autodesk tools were used during the pursuit, award, design, preconstruction, construction, and post-construction activities. They will cover lessons learned from the most interesting and challenging aspects of the project related to the high standards of regenerative design and the 20 Design Imperatives for the Living Building Challenge. The team used Revit software, Assemble software, Navisworks software, and BIM 360 software to identify and work through solutions. The presenters are not software experts; however, they are experts in project management, regenerative design and construction, and systems coordination, and they are excited to share how Autodesk software contributed to the project.

In the big data and artificial intelligence era, Saipem's new business model considers innovation an integral part of corporate culture. Having a large amount of information available, and above all being able to count on a great calculation capacity that can improve decision speed and managing complexity, is one of the principles that will make digital and big data analysis increasingly essential in the present and the future. In construction departments, talking about data means a clash with the complexity of data usability and management. This class will showcase how Forge enabled Saipem to aggregate big data from different sources (SmartPlant 3D, Tekla Structures, Oracle, Navisworks software) to analyze them (Microsoft Power BI) and to get an updated data set of information applying a full BIM (Building Information Modeling) approach. This class will describe the steps toward getting Power BI dashboard directly in Forge, approaching the system architecture necessary for this integration.

This demo will show a real-life project scenario from start to finish. The project has massive amounts of data in 2D but clash detection was a major focus. The team put a workflow together using Civil 3D software, ArcGIS, Navisworks software, and the power of pipe networks to produce a very robust data set for the design teams to use. Assumed depth utilities present a dynamic problem in today's 3D world. Without proper as-built data, design standards, and construction documentation, this problem was a major hurdle for this team. The workflow they assembled enabled the consumer to easily determine the levels of accuracy, and individual pipes or networks could be updated in real time and displayed in a Navisworks federated model.

The country’s leading mechanical contractors were some of the earliest adopters of Building Information Modeling (BIM) due to the vast potential for off-site prefabrication. Nearly ten years after its first BIM project, J.C. Cannistraro is sharing some lessons learned from modeling, fabricating, and building some of the most high-profile hospital and biotech projects in the Northeast. Using primarily Autodesk® Navisworks® and Autodesk® Fabrication software, we will explain how we use collaborative thinking, Lean methodology, and BIM tools throughout the preconstruction and construction phases to maximize the efficiency of delivery and installation on every project.

We shall begin with two alignments, a general plan, profiles, and several subassemblies for Subassembly Composer. Step by step, we will start with a simple corridor and will finish with a complex intelligent model in Navisworks software with landscaping, external engineering networks, and traffic management.

Many may think that one should separate Navisworks software and BIM 360 Model Coordination on a project by choosing one or the other for clash modeling. This could not be further from the truth. This class will highlight case studies of recent Tetra Tech projects that have resulted in a greater than 50% drop in average time spent at the end of projects for disciplines resolving clashes by using BIM 360 Model Coordination and Navisworks. Attendees will learn how to easily start working within BIM 360 Model Coordination, which will enable an earlier start to clash coordination in the project’s design cycle before running a more comprehensive clash analysis using Navisworks. This class will also provide tips, tricks, and innovative processes for working on projects in BIM 360 to easily set up the BIM 360 Model Coordination service, and we’ll cover the new features added in 2021 for bringing these results into Navisworks.

Bridge construction in Norway in 2024 is a different ballgame than it was in 2015. We've transitioned to full digital design and construction without drawings. This would have been impossible without a rich Revit API. We've created our own add-in, scaling from 10 users in 2019 to 1,300 users in 2024. What a success! But the challenge has not been object-oriented coding in C#, but rather scaling the knowledge. How can we scale technology efficiently and fast? What are the obstacles? Using open source tools and open formats, CIMIC is federating their largest 3D architectural models, directly from ACC and into the Unity game engine. They show record loading times and record rendering speeds with the largest of federated scenes, while keeping ACC versioning, filtering and coloring, of single elements. This case study compares different pipelines that were explored before choosing the final result. Topics include ArcGIS Maps SDK for Unity, IFC, I3S, OBJ, USD, FBX, 3D-Tiles and glTF. Advanced nuclear is challenged to design and construct on short timelines, with smaller budgets and fewer workers. Digitalization can help companies overcome these constraints. Unfortunately, a digital twin (DT) is often presented as a monolith. This results in organizations abandoning DTs as having benefits that are minimal or unrealized in time. Many perceive DTs as too large an undertaking to even begin. However, digitalization isn't a track meet; it's a marathon of incremental milestones. And, like all races, it has a starting line. This session will summarize a journey that Argonne National Laboratory and Implexus Lab made to digitize the Mechanisms Engineering Test Loop (METL), a test facility for advancing sodium fast reactors. Components were designed with Inventor software and assembled in Navisworks software, and AutoCAD software generated construction documents. Integrating with Revit provided a DT foundation. Ultimately, the suite of Autodesk tools enabled the creation of a DT boasting live data visualization within a virtual reality (VR) environment.

This session will look at a process with an in-house tool developed among other things with Autodesk Platform Services technologies allowing users to inject a Revit /IFC model into Power BI in just minutes, in order to visualize and exploit the data for different use cases (engineering and site work team). In this session, we'll view and export Bill of Quantities, check the data (automatic coloration depending of the value of the data), link to another database as an SOA (schedule of accommodation) to compare with the model and track it, and link to the schedule of the project to do a "4D."
