Step-by-step:

The Domain Manager is used to create, edit, and delete elements contained within a domain. Because a domain is essentially a temporary subset of network components, you can create a selection set directly within the Domain Manager.

Selection sets are good to use for any domain that is repeatedly used or difficult to set up. They are also a great way to find features on the map from an output report.

  1. Open the appropriate .aprx file in ArcGIS Pro.
  2. From the ribbon, InfoWater Pro tab, Project panel, click Initialize.
  3. On the InfoWater Pro ribbon, in the Domain panel, click Domain Manager.
  4. In the Domain Manager, click Clear to clear the domain.
  5. Under Element Source, select DB Query.
  6. Expand the adjacent drop-down and select 8IN_Z4, 8 inch pipes in Zone 4.
Domain Manager with DB query selected
  1. Click Add.

This is a domain that includes all the 8-inch pipes in Zone 4, in which you can now find all the critical pipes within it for your subset.

  1. In the Domain Manager, select Map Selection as the Element Source and click Sub-Select.

While the Add option adds more features to the current domain, the Sub-Select option is used to choose features among those already in the domain. In this case, only pipes in the domain that are selected on the map remain in the domain.

To choose the desired pipes in the map:

  1. Click and drag to multi-select a group of pipes in the map, such as in the top-right corner. The selected pipes are highlighted.
  2. Right-click in the map area and select Enter.
The network map displaying the sub-selection of pipes, highlighted in the top-right corner of the map
  1. The Domain Manager window re-appears. Click Save.
  2. From the Selection Set dialog box toolbar, click New.
  3. In the New Selection Set popup, type a New ID of “CRITICAL_PIPES”.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Click OK again to save the selection set.

The group of pipes that you selected and saved as CRITICAL_PIPES is now available as a selection set:

  1. When you are finished, be sure to click Clear in the Domain Manager to clear the selection set.
