By default AUTOCAD S ribbon is set to display fully expanded.
00:07
You can also choose from three minimized states which can save
00:10
you screen space or it might just become your personal preference.
00:14
You'll control the display states from the ribbon display
00:16
state icons to the right of the ribbon tabs.
00:20
There are two parts to the control.
00:22
I'll first click on the right side or the pulldown menu which allows you
00:25
to choose a preferred state or to cycle through all which is the default
00:30
I'll exit by pressing the escape key.
00:33
The left side is the action button.
00:35
Notice that hovering over either shows you the next ribbon display state.
00:39
Let's click on the pull down menu again and examine each option.
00:43
We'll start with the bottom option state,
00:45
minimize the panel buttons and work our way up.
00:48
Let's click on it. Now,
00:49
as you see the panels have become buttons
00:52
to use them in this state,
00:54
change tabs by clicking on them just as you would normally,
00:58
when you hover over a panel button, all of the tools within that panel will display,
01:02
click on a tool as usual to select it,
01:05
move your mouse away from the ribbon panel to collapse the panel.
01:08
Let's continue with the other two display states.
01:11
We'll go back to the display states, icon,
01:14
expand the pull down and choose minimized panel titles.
01:18
When I do so,
01:19
you can see that the buttons that were displayed
01:21
now only show their titles beneath the respective tab.
01:24
In
01:24
this display state, your usage will be the same as the panel button state,
01:28
just hover over the panel title as before
01:31
again, I'll pull my mouse away to collapse it.
01:34
Open the display states, pull down again
01:36
and click on the final state which is minimized to tabs.
01:40
When this option is selected, the only thing left is the ribbon tabs and their names
01:45
using this display state differs from the other two
01:48
as you have to click on the tab to activate its contents instead of hovering over it
01:52
also instead of a collapse panel of all the tools,
01:56
you'll get the full ribbon view as if the ribbon were fully expanded. As usual.
02:00
Click on your tool of choice
02:02
while we're in the minimized state,
02:04
let's look at the functionality of the left side
02:07
of the layer state's icon or the action button.
02:10
When any of the three minimized states are in use,
02:13
the action button will toggle between that state
02:16
and the full ribbon view.
02:18
Notice again that hovering over it will display a tool tip
02:21
with the name of the next display state to change to.
02:24
If we were to click on it now it would change back to the full ribbon.
02:28
There is one other option in the pull down, but I wanted to save it to last.
02:32
It's called cycle
02:33
all. And it's actually the default selection.
02:36
Let's select cycle all the left side action button
02:40
will now cycle through all four available ribbon states.
02:47
For the remainder of this video,
02:49
we'll leave the ribbon in its default fully expanded state.
02:53
Moving on in our exploration of the ribbon,
02:55
we'll look at adding and removing elements from the ribbon
02:58
for this. Let's change to the view tab.
03:01
I'll right click on the blank area on any panel.
03:04
And Autocad will display two options for me,
03:06
show tabs and show panels.
03:08
If you happen to right, click on a tool icon,
03:11
you'll get an additional menu item that allows you
03:13
to add the tool to the quick access toolbar.
03:16
Rolling over the show tabs will display a flyout
03:19
menu where you can turn on or off tabs.
03:21
I'll select the visualized tab to turn it on,
03:25
repeat the procedure to uncheck it or turn it off
03:28
the show panels fly out works the same way,
03:31
check or uncheck items to display them or not
03:33
here. I'll display the navigate panel.
03:36
Notice it's now added to its default position at the end of the ribbon.
03:41
You'll also notice some gray area that has no panels,
03:44
right?
03:44
Clicking within this area will display an
03:46
expanded pop up dialogue with more options
03:49
from the top, you can define your tool pallet group.
03:53
Next are the show tabs and show panels, menus that we just looked at.
03:57
You can turn the panel titles on or off.
03:60
You can undock the ribbon and move it anywhere you like,
04:03
which is outside the scope of this lesson.
04:05
Finally, you can close the ribbon entirely.
04:08
Let's do that now
04:10
doing so runs a command called ribbon close.
04:13
It's important to know that if you do close the ribbon accidentally or not,
04:17
you'll need to run a companion command called ribbon to make it display again.
