00:03
Once you use the Traffic Simulation functionality in InfraWorks to generate traffic simulation animations,
00:10
you can adjust the simulation parameters and demands if your design project details change.
00:15
Begin in InfraWorks with a traffic simulation animation already created.
00:21
You can update the traffic flow control using the Traffic Study Area panel.
00:26
For instance, under Analysis Display, you can adjust the Result Volume and Daily Threshold parameters.
00:34
Or, in the Simulation drop-down, you can select a different pre-built simulation.
00:39
Once selections are made, you can rerun the simulation.
00:44
If you want to change anything else, you need to use the advanced parameters within InfraWorks.
00:50
Right-click inside the traffic study area and click Traffic Analyst Panel.
00:56
The Traffic Simulation confirmation dialog box displays, asking if you are sure you want to access the advanced parameters.
01:03
Click OK.
01:05
The Traffic Analyst panel opens in a separate application window.
01:10
The Traffic Analyst panel lets you specify advanced demand matrices, profiles, vehicle types, driver types, and other variables.
01:20
It also lets you create multiple simulation variants.
01:24
Think of it as a separate window where Mobility Simulation runs in the background of your InfraWorks model.
01:31
In the Simulation tab, under Name, you can see the pre-built simulation options,
01:37
which are the same options that appear in the Traffic Study Area panel inside InfraWorks.
01:43
For this example, first, increase the volume of traffic in the simulation.
01:48
From the menu, select Demand and then click Demands.
01:53
The Demand Editor dialog appears.
01:56
In the Directed Demand: Origin-Destination Matrices tab, you can see that traffic volume parameters are set low.
02:03
To increase them, change every number in the matrix to “40”.
02:09
While the updated volume is quite large and unrealistic, it will help you visualize the traffic volume changes.
02:16
Still in the Traffic Analyst panel, zoom in to a traffic zone and notice that in Mobility Simulation,
02:23
traffic zones are green, as opposed to the purple color used for person areas.
02:28
Back in the Demand Editor dialog box, click OK.
02:33
To keep your different simulations straight, it is best practice to create a new one and rename it each time you make changes.
02:41
On the Simulation tab, click New Simulation to open the New Simulation dialog box.
02:47
Here, you can name your new simulation—for this example, “Simulation1” is entered.
02:55
To set the current simulation, in the Name column, select Simulation1, and then click Show (the light bulb button).
03:03
To start the simulation, click Play.
03:06
Now, when you zoom into the model, you can see that the traffic activity has significantly increased.
03:13
If you want to watch this simulation in InfraWorks, from the Traffic Analyst menu, select Cloud > Sync.
03:21
Then, Close the Traffic Analyst panel.
03:25
Back in InfraWorks, in the Traffic Study panel, expand the Simulations drop-down and select Simulation1.
03:32
Next, click Run Simulation.
03:35
A loading dialog appears, reporting progress, as InfraWorks prepares the updated traffic model.
03:43
After the information is loaded, in the Animation Player dialog box, click Play.
03:49
There is now a large amount of activity in your InfraWorks model.
03:54
As you have seen, you can adjust demand and other important parameters in your InfraWorks traffic simulation
04:01
using either the Traffic Study Area panel, or for advanced parameters, the Traffic Analysts panel.
