Autodesk Revit and Forge - Xella BIM Library and Interactive Web Catalog

Autodesk Revit and Forge - Xella BIM Library and Interactive Web Catalog

Customer challenge

Xella Serbia is part of the international holding company from Germany - Xella Group. The Company has been producing and selling the highest quality construction material for walls, YTONG, since 2006, which was followed by the production of two more construction materials, Multipor and Silka. Xella is one of the world leaders in the production of construction materials. Xella Serbia is known as a company that follows technology innovation trends. They have a calculator for approximate material takeoff and cost estimates on their website and some Autodesk Revit plugins. Based on their previous projects, Xella Serbia together with TeamCAD has concluded that the company's sales process and cooperation with the architects should be modernized, more competitive and that they should be able to facilitate the use of their products for their customers in the BIM world.

Project goals

After a series of meetings, brainstorming, and discussions, Xella Serbia and TeamCAD defined mutual goals for this project: 1) The first goal was to develop the BIM Revit Template files with Xella products. 2) Secondly, the goal was to enable all the stakeholders, by developing a Cloud app, to have easy and interactive access to Xella's products and offer them extended BIM info about those products. 3) As a second phase of the project, the goal was to regionally promote the BIM library and the Cloud app.

Solution

1) BIM LIBRARY TeamCAD's engineers have developed the Xella BIM Revit template that consists of: - More than 60 different Wall Types - More than 20 different Materials - Material Takeoff schedules for wall materials, all in accordance with Xella's strict product specifications - Each Material and Wall Type has values for defined custom and native parameters 2) INTERACTIVE WEB CATALOG TeamCAD's Development Team has produced the Xella Interactive Web Catalog relying on Autodesk Forge Cloud technology. It is an application accessed through a regular web browser with no need for any additional software or addons. On its basis it relies on the Xella BIM library, using its models and all additional data connected to these models. Through Autodesk Forge API, these models are served on the web page in two ways: - As a completely interactive 3D model taking up a bigger part of the screen - As additional data is situated in the table on the right side, giving info and making calculations

Business outcome

Utilizing the Forge Cloud API and migrating its product Revit BIM model library to the web cloud app, Xella Serbia has empowered its stakeholders, engineers, architects, and other partners. Now, the design process is faster by providing a library of Revit BIM models of Xella products and giving the additional technical info and possibility of calculations through the web app. The sales team can now move faster during the sales process, utilizing their time and effort towards closing the deals while using the Xella Interactive Web App to present their products. Generally, Xella has improved the speed and efficiency of its workflow, both in design and sales.

Conclusion

"I would like to express my gratitude towards the TeamCAD company that due to its hard work helped build this perfect piece of software that will help Xella Serbia in its positioning on the Serbian market in the BIM area." - Aleksandar Djikanovic, Project Manager and BIM Coordinator - Xella Serbia

Pinehill Residential House

If you work in the architectural visualization field, you will usually encounter two challenges from a client: short timeframes and lust for quality. Renderus Visuals' friends and clients from MAK Studio had little time on their side to design a family residence, and they worked together almost simultaneously on the project. It was hard to produce attractive images in real-time, but this was the major challenge for this project. The house was nestled in the hills near the San Francisco area and surrounded by pine forest. The client was sending AutoCAD drawings and hand-drawn sketches daily. Renderus Visual had to combine those references to make good draft renderings. In the end, as they agreed on the design, Renderus swiftly produced the final production renderings, thanks to the power of the Autodesk 3ds Max platform. Overall, the project was a real challenge, technically and artistically, since they had to make changes daily and put everything together in a short time.

Tata Safari—More than the Vehicle You See on Screen

Primer Studio was tasked with creating video material for the well-known Tata car brand. The key was to capture all the car's features and present it in the best possible light. However, the vehicle present on set was not the one that should be displayed in the final material. Sounds confusing, right? Well, that’s the mission Primer Studio was assigned. In their case, they had to use 3D magic to transform the tracking car into a future car. The filmed car and 3D car model, although different in shape and color, had the same wheelbase. A fun behind-the-scenes fact is that Tata Motors was doing the final touches on the car as they were working on the model. Luckily, they never shy away from a challenge which shows their flexibility and openness to adapt the initial plan if necessary - and it often is.

Solving the Production Challenges - Vault Technical Documentation Management

Tigar Tyres is part of the Michelin business system and one of the biggest producers of quality tires. As part of the Michelin corporation, their development sector is responsible for the design and development of new tire types. The company is specialized in the production and sales of car tires, truck tires, tires for agriculture, and special industrial and construction tires. For years, they were using Autodesk Inventor as their main piece of design software. Besides, part of the engineering process was done also in AutoCAD. Challenge was similar to the challenges that our other clients had when speaking about the design in teams; there was a need for centralized data management of the workflow, technical documentation, detailed revision and version monitoring, product lifecycles, access rights, and more. Additionally, there was a need to exchange data with the other factories within the Michelin system.
