Exterior Improvement - Barrio 31 Masterplan

Exterior Improvement - Barrio 31 Masterplan

Customer challenge

The project with Buenos Aires City Hall was a public project with many stakeholders and time/budget constraints. The Barrio 31 neighborhood was built with no regulation, so surveying the site through traditional methods would have taken 4 to 6 months and a team of 20+ architects.

Project goals

The project consisted of the improvement of existing houses and the construction of new ones, the provision of definitive water, sewage, electricity, gas and telephone installations; the transformation of public space with the opening of streets, squares and parks; as well as the refurbishment and construction of new community equipment (schools, libraries, health and sports centers). In this puzzle, AEC’s BIM, software and reality capture services fit in the external improvement of existing processes.

Solution

This project was made possible by implementing BIM along with a team of highly proactive people with great leadership, automated processes, and good teamwork. Otherwise, the time constraints would not have allowed for delivering such a huge amount of work (improvements to around 1100 homes were designed and fully documented).

Business outcome

The business outcomes are:

1. Time reduced with manual work and errors through automation, from 24 to 8 hours per parcel

2. Quality assurance throughout the whole process with reduced quality control time

3. Reduced time on less important repetitive work to afford the team time to focus on more important design-oriented tasks

4. Improved documentation delivery time so work on-site would start without delays

5. Consistency gained among the team drawings

6. Design and criteria improved

Conclusion

This project was a success by implementing a technology that can effectively improve business outcomes and also transform reality for the better in contexts in which it is normally not applied: a low-income emergency neighborhood in Latin America.

Digital Transformation With Zero Downtime and Zero Productivity Loss: A Voyansi-RedBuilt Case Study

In 2018, RedBuilt found itself at a crossroads. They had weathered the great recession in good form, but the experience had raised tough questions about the kind of company that RedBuilt should become, and where they wanted to be positioned in the marketplace. RedBuilt had always prided themselves on staying ahead of the curve, especially when it came to their innovative portfolio of structural wood products. But their digital infrastructure was merely keeping pace with the rest of the industry, and the company was keen to change that. To navigate that transformation, they sought help from Autodesk Solution Provider Voyansi.

Kenect Apartment Tower

UEB/Katerra needed to simulate the building’s construction in a 3D environment to get coordinated layouts of the MEP and FP systems to the Architectural and Structural design team. The challenge was construction was ongoing while the BIM Coordination process took place. The main priority was to get accurate concrete penetrations located on-site ahead of the concrete pouring schedule. An added benefit was to actually verify the engineer’s design and confirm feasibility or propose a solution.

Improve Fort Bliss Hospital Mechanical and Plumbing Systems

The project for COBB Mechanical Contractors and Fort Bliss Hospital consisted of coordinating the mechanical and plumbing trades at the manufacturing level for a 1,130,000 m² project including the main hospital, inpatient and outpatient clinics, the research administration building, the central service plant and the car park. All buildings were highly complex and met strict requirements.
