SAVING 75% OF TIME ON STAIRS AND RAILINGS

SAVING 75% OF TIME ON STAIRS AND RAILINGS

Customer challenge

Eddie Howie is a self-employed structural detailer located in West Virginia with over 35 years’ experience. His work includes structural steel, joist and deck, and miscellaneous steel for commercial and industrial type buildings.

As a self-employed business owner, Eddie wanted to work faster with increased accuracy. Eddie uses Autodesk Advance Steel, a standalone product that is also included in the Autodesk AEC Collection. Advance Steel is steelwork detailing software with dedicated macros for creating common connections and structural elements, such as ladders, bracing, portal frames, and of particular use by Eddie, stairs and railings.

Project goals

Since most of his effort is spent detailing stairs and handrails, Eddie was looking for a tool that would especially help him speed up that process while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

Solution

Eddie contacted Graitec Canada to collaborate on finding the right tool for his individual needs. Senior Solutions Specialist Benoit Lalonde helped Eddie narrow down the options. PowerPack for Advance Steel rose to the top as the right tool.

Graitec Canada helped Eddie implement a trial version of PowerPack for Advance Steel.

Business outcome

Just a few days after he began his trial of PowerPack for Advance Steel Stairs and Railings package, Eddie was already seeing results and shared his thoughts:

“Here is my first impression of the PowerPack. I would say that about 90% of my work is stairs and handrails. The PowerPack Stairs and Railings has been a great benefit for me to produce stairs and railing at great speed and accuracy.”

Conclusion

A month later, Eddie was even more impressed. “I would recommend that any Advance Steel operators that do stairs and railings look into this add on”, he said. “You will benefit greatly.” Of his time savings, he said:

“With this PowerPack, I have saved 50 to 70 percent of my time, depending on the complexity of the stair. For a normal 180-degree stair (2 flight u-shaped), it is probably about 75%. I love it!”
