From AR/VR and machine learning to future work trends and hiring new talent, the AU 2016 Leadership Forum included Geoff Colvin, an award-winning thinker, author, and broadcaster, who explored today’s most significant trends in business. Colvin is an editor and columnist for FORTUNE magazine. His latest book is Humans Are Underrated: What High Achievers Know that Brilliant Machines Never Will.

Jon Pittman, Autodesk VP, Corporate Strategy, and his team discussed the need to re-evaluate relationships with our machine creations. While Randy Swearer, Autodesk VP, Education, discussed changes in education and how those in today’s economy might compete for next generation employees.

Danny Guillory, Autodesk Director, Global Diversity and Inclusion, facilitated a discussion with guest speakers and attendees on building a team of tech-savvy, lifelong learners. And Mickey McManus, Autodesk Fellow and author of Trillions, introduced an exercise in design thinking to identify some next steps in building the future of work for your organization and team.

When COVID-19 hit the United Kingdom in March 2020, university teaching was significantly disrupted with many courses moving to online-only teaching. Fusion 360 software empowered us to smoothly transition to fully online courses with only a few months’ notice. This talk will discuss how Fusion 360 became an essential tool for teaching online, and how it enabled the University of Warwick School of Engineering faculty to continue to deliver high-quality teaching. We will discuss our approach to signing up and delivering the first learning experiences with Fusion 360 to a cohort of nearly 400 first-year general engineering students. We will show how students were able to continue working on both individual and group projects across all four years of the degree course remotely. And, of course, we’ll show some of the amazing and innovative work they did. With remote design teams undoubtedly being an important aspect of the future of work, it’s essential to see what students can do with design software today.

Microdesk Co-Innovation Lab collaborated with BamCore through the Autodesk Foundation to show the value and benefits of their products to industry clients. Using the Autodesk-provided design analysis ecosystem, we showcase the energy and carbon advantages that BamCore’s products can bring to the design. The developed custom workflow allows BamCore to rapidly obtain comparative energy and carbon impacts and present them to their clients without future support. We’ve also set up the groundwork and created a phased journey to navigate the Future of Work, aiming to include an interactive user interface dashboard for rapid ROI analysis. We compare BamCore technology versus typical constructions to ensure Microdesk and BamCore co-create meaningful and inspirational future impacts toward resilient and low-carbon buildings.
