This course aims to educate participants on the innovative integration of machine learning (ML) techniques for deformation approximation within Maya software. Using approximations for (part of) a deformation stack can highly improve interactivity when using complex rigs, and can significantly improve the portability between different applications. It is designed for animators, game developers, VFX artists, and any professional interested in exploring the intersection of ML and 3D animation. This course will explore a demo of a rig with computationally expensive muscle deformations that is reduced to a simple, general, black-box neural network that only requires inputs from the motion system. We'll show the entire setup process in detail. In addition, we'll go over best practices, tips, and limitations to help users get the most out of this tool for their production needs.

Creating visualizations can be challenging, but it can become easier with a step-by-step system that artists can follow. This system can act as a guide, providing a checklist of points that need to be included in the image to make it fabulous. In collaboration with the team, we've developed an eight-step system to share with you. It includes the following steps: composition, camera setup, lighting, color balance, materials, assets, storytelling, and postproduction. Combining these points leads to excellent results. Each is important, and the lack of one can lead to failure. The key is to find a balance between them, which comes with practice. This lecture will focus on the workflow associated with collecting point cloud data and bringing it into Revit software and 3ds Max Design software for project interaction and improvement of projects' accuracy and quality. In addition, we will explore the timesaving features of using digitally collected data for integration in 3D modeling software. Attendees will bring point cloud data into Revit software and 3ds Max software to create a project. They will learn the workflow and be able to describe the process of merging and using the data.

The climate is changing, and sea levels are rising. This will have a catastrophic impact around the globe, especially for those who live in the Pacific Islands, as entire countries, cultures, and architectural artifacts are wiped off the map. As technology advances and becomes increasingly accessible, we now have tools to mitigate the impacts of climate change. Specifically, photogrammetry and virtual reality let us document artifacts at risk of submersion in order to support historic preservation efforts in the face of climate change. This session will present a recent project documenting archaeological and architectural ruins in Kosrae, Micronesia. The project supported effective decision making about the preservation of culturally significant artifacts by experiencing them from new points of view. To do this, the project investigated feasibility; developed workflows; and utilized drones, photogrammetry, virtual reality, and augmented reality toward the historic preservation of cultural artifacts.
