Create custom sheet and sheet set properties

Ok. So far we've seen the built in properties of a sheet and that of a sheet set.

You've probably already noticed

that they're rather limited. I guess you could say they're kind of a starting point.

The real power comes in the other types of properties,

the custom properties or the ones you make for your own unique situations.

Let's open the properties for sheet set again,

you'll see a button at the bottom left that reads,

edit custom properties.

Let's click on that.

You'll get the custom properties dialogue

You'll see all the properties you've defined for

both the sheet set and for individual sheets.

It should currently be empty.

We'll just make a couple of examples, but I've had dozens in this list.

Let's add our first custom property by clicking on the add button

that will bring up the property definition box.

It only has three pieces to it.

The name of the new property,

its default value if any

and a very important set of radio buttons in the corner.

This is where you specify the owner of the new property.

In other words, does it belong to the overall sheet set or to each individual sheet.

In our example, we're going to create a sheet set property. So make sure that's set,

its name will be total sheets

and set a default value of 17

click on. OK, to exit

click. OK. Again to dismiss the custom properties dialogue,

you should now see 1/4 category in the sheet set properties dialogue.

It's also important to note that you can only get to

the edit custom properties dialogue from the sheet set properties box.

Click on edit custom properties, then click add again

and this time, click on the sheet as being the owner,
