00:03
We're going to be learning about the right block command. It
00:06
is the tool you'll use to create a new
00:08
drawing file from existing blocks in your drawing,
00:10
selected objects or the entire drawing.
00:14
You can access the command from the block definition
00:16
panel of the insert tab in the ribbon,
00:19
use the pull down menu from the create block icon to select right block.
00:23
Of course, once you do so
00:25
the main icon will change to write block.
00:27
Let's start the command. Now,
00:29
as always, if you prefer to use the keyboard,
00:32
you can type in W block or just W which is its alias
00:36
running. The command will display the right block dialog.
00:39
You'll see there are a few sections to it.
00:42
Your source is at the top basepoint and object options are in the middle
00:46
and the file destination and insertion units are at the bottom.
00:50
We're going to start with the three different source object options.
00:54
Select the block radio button in the source section.
00:57
Notice the base point and objects section gray out.
01:01
When selected
01:02
the block selection pulldown will become active,
01:05
expand the pulldown to see a list of all the block definitions in the drawing.
01:09
Let's choose chair seven as the block we want
01:13
creating a new drawing file from an existing
01:15
block is almost as old as Autocad itself.
01:18
Maybe you got a file in from outside of your
01:20
organization and you need to use its blocks elsewhere.
01:23
Maybe you're just building a block library.
01:25
Whatever the reason, it's an extremely common task,
01:28
you'll notice that the chosen block name is appended to the default path,
01:32
use the small square icon to the right of the path box
01:35
to navigate to the same folder that this sample file is in.
01:39
We will be writing three new files into that location.
01:42
Click on save and you'll see that doing so will also append the DWG onto the name.
01:48
If you skip this step, you'll need to add the extension yourself.
01:51
Let's set the insert units to be inches
01:55
and then click on. Ok,
01:56
the chair seven block will now become its own DW G file in the specified folder.
