Mark edges or faces on your geometry and create a grid system on a surface using the Face Points tool within Autodesk Point Layout.
Type:
Tutorial
Length:
3 min.
Transcript
00:03
When using Autodesk Point Layout within Revit,
00:07
the Face Points tool allows you to precisely mark and create points on the edges, faces, or topography of your geometry.
00:16
With a project open in Revit, from the ribbon, Autodesk Point Layout tab, APL panel, select Face Points.
00:27
From the Selection type dialog, choose the type of elements to select—for this example, select Edges.
00:37
Next, specify the point spacing.
00:41
Depending on the needs of your project, you may choose to space the points by a percentage of the edge length,
00:48
by a set distance, or using automatic spacing.
00:53
Here, select Distance.
00:57
In the Distance dialog, enter a distance, such as 36 inches, then click OK.
01:05
Next, enter a description, such as, “slab edge points”.
01:10
Click OK.
01:13
In the drawing, pick the edge to place the points.
01:19
The Description dialog displays once more.
01:23
Click OK again.
01:26
Back in the drawing, you can see that the points are placed every 36 inches along the edge.
01:33
You can also use the Face Points tool to create a structured grid system on a surface.
01:40
Select Face Points again, and this time, select Faces.
01:47
Next, from the Mark type dialog, click Grid to establish a grid system.
01:55
For the Grid Dimensions option, enter the grid values in an X by Y format, such as “25x25”.
02:05
Click OK.
02:07
Enter a description of “slab level points”, then click OK.
02:13
Finally, in the drawing, select the surface to create the grid system.
02:20
Click OK to close the Description dialog.
02:25
Now, you can use the Face Points tool in Autodesk Point Layout to mark on the edges, faces, or topography of your geometry,
02:34
and to create a grid system on a surface.
