Description
With just over 2 years since the UK Government mandated BIM Level 2 adoption on publicly procured built assets, construction project teams have claimed successful collaboration outcomes during the design phase. Successful examples of real-life application of collaboration during the construction phase, at the conversion of the coordinated virtual project information models into asset information models, and more importantly the physical assets, are sparse at best. Having invested extensive resources to produce a coordinated model which supports quicker installation on sites, design teams can only quite rightly question the role played by Tier 1 contractors in BIM workflows as federated, data rich models stay 'dumped' on the common data environment, CDE never fulfilling the intended purpose. This study examines the BIM platforms and tools available on the market, and demonstrates how Tier 1 contractors in the UK have developed information and resource management structures that enable efficient data capture during the construction phase to facilitate seamless delivery of BIM Level 2 education project with COBie requirements. More specifically, the study demonstrates the seamless workflows using BIM 360 Field and BIM 360 Glue on an educational project in the United Kingdom.
Key Learnings
- 1.Understand how to collaboratively and timely define and set achievable built asset requirements for BIM Level 2 projects.
