Assign different property settings to multiple viewports

Assign different property settings to multiple viewports.

00:04

Let's change some layer properties in these view ports to demonstrate

00:07

to keep things fairly simple.

00:09

We'll be working with the display and color properties.

00:11

So resize the layer palette to show VP color as the

00:15

last column by pulling it in from the right edge,

00:18

your view should look similar to my own where you can see both

00:21

the enlarged restroom along with the same room on the overall plan,

00:25

double click inside the enlarged plan viewport to make it active.

00:30

We're going to use the layer freeze tool from the layers panel

00:33

in the ribbon to freeze a couple of layers in the viewport.

00:36

But first

00:37

we're going to talk about some settings for it.

00:39

Click on the layer freeze tool,

00:41

it will prompt you to select a layer to freeze.

00:44

But if you have dynamic input turned on as I do,

00:47

you'll see a down arrow at the end indicating some additional prompts

00:51

on the command line. You'll see settings and undo

00:54

I'll use the dynamic version and arrow down then

00:57

arrow down again to highlight and finally select settings

01:01

from the command line type in S or click on the word.

01:05

You'll see two options, select view ports and block selection,

01:09

highlight and select viewpoints.

01:11

You'll now see another two options.

01:13

You can set the command to either freeze or VP freeze.

01:17

Make sure you're set to VP freeze,

01:19

which will freeze an object in the current viewport only

01:23

if it's set to freeze,

01:24

it will freeze all objects in all view ports.

01:27

The other main option,

01:28

block selection controls how the layer will be frozen when nested within a block

01:33

or X ref these same controls are also found in the layer off tool

01:38

press enter to set it to VP freeze

01:41

and return to the select object prompt.

01:43

Now that we've made sure our viewport settings are correct.

01:46

Select the green call out rectangle from within the active viewport,

01:50

it will immediately become frozen and disappear.

01:53

Click again on either piece of scan text to freeze that layer.

01:57

Also finally select the gray roof hatching to freeze it,

02:02

press enter on your keyboard to exit the command

02:05

at this point.

02:06

You should notice that the layer settings you just made

02:08

only apply to the viewport in which you made them.

02:11

The overall viewport on the left does not have the changes.

02:15

Also

02:15

note that two of the layers in the property manager palette

02:18

have the VP freeze icon changed to indicate

02:22

them as being frozen in the current viewport.

02:25

Let's change a couple of colors in the viewport. Also

02:29

in the palette, find the layer named a

02:32

floor.

02:33

A

02:34

click on its scan

02:36

layer swatch from the VP color column and change it to dark blue and click. OK?

02:41

Do the same for the layer named a

02:43

door

02:44

notice again, the colors change in that viewport but not in the other.
