    Description

Reality-capture technologies—such as 3D laser scanning, mobile and aerial LiDAR (light detection and ranging), and drone photogrammetry—are becoming the normal practice for site surveying instead of the traditional labor-intensive method. How to specify the scope of work for the surveyors and drone operators may result in the different levels of useful data to be digitalized in Building Information Modeling (BIM) / 3D modeling platforms with an efficient process. The class will focus on the workflows used for developing information models out from the laser scans for the treatment industry in the United States and the United Kingdom. We will discuss a variety of workflow options using data captured from scan information using drones and laser scans and validation of the scan data into ReCap software, processing data in Edgewise for auto detection of pipes, and importing the processed data to Revit software for further modeling. This session features Revit, InfraWorks 360, and Navisworks Manage. AIA Approved

    Key Learnings

    • Learn how to define laser-scan surveying and drone flight for accurate documentation of existing structures
    • Learn how to extract typically needed plant deliverables from laser scans
    • Discover differing versions of visualization from point cloud data and into ReCap, Revit, and InfraWorks
    • Learn how to utilize large-scale scans and effective division of data (tips and tricks)
